The 79-year-old, who is approaching his 80th birthday, is no longer on talking terms with his daughter
Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas, wants to reunite with his daughter on his 80th birthday but fears there is no chance of reconciliation.
The estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex admitted that the person he wants to hear from the most on July 18 - his birthday - is his daughter, he revealed in a tell-all interview.
“I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch,” he told the Mail on Sunday.
He said that his landmark day will be filled with mixed emotions: “I never expected to make it to 80 because Markle men never do. My father died at 61.
“I’ve had a good life and I am proud of what I’ve accomplished, but everything has been overshadowed by what has happened in the last six years.”
It is well known that the 79-year-old is no longer on talking terms with his daughter. But he remains baffled by the treatment he has received from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
He admitted that he struggles to understand why he never actually met either Harry or his two grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
“I would love to meet my grandchildren, but I would be happy with a photograph at this stage,” he said.

Meghan Markle's father Thomas Markle has not met his grandchildren
NetflixDiscussing the latest interview from Markle on GB News, US royal commentator Hilary Fordwich hit out at his daughter’s “hypocrisy” for not reaching out to her father, despite claiming to "care about so many other people".
Speaking to host Mark Dolan, Fordwich noted the "very sad state of affairs" the duchess is in with her father, and slammed her for having "empathy for other people" but not her own parent.
Fordwich fumed: “It is a frightfully sad story. He also added that he never thought that he'd have something in common with the King.
“And of course, the King doesn't know his grandchildren either. And I think that's a very sad state of affairs.”
Dolan claimed that the latest interview from Thomas Markle will “not be good for the brand" of Prince Harry and Meghan, as they are "all about their PR”.
He added: “Poor old Thomas Markle, as he approaches his 80th birthday, he is a serious thorn in the side and frankly, an ongoing embarrassment to the couple.”
The 79-year-old also said he feels “deep empathy” for King Charles, who is in a similar position to him in regards to not being able to see his grandchildren.
He said: “I would love to speak to him because I am sure he has as many unanswered questions as I do. Neither of us deserves the treatment we’ve received.
“He is going through cancer treatment and I’m not in the best of health. I’m not afraid of dying. It is what it is.”
