King Charles is set to return to public duties today, hosting an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle following a short hospital stay due to cancer treatment side effects.

This marks his first public engagement since experiencing what royal sources described as a "minor bump" in his cancer journey.

The King was pictured smiling and waving as he left Clarence House in London last Friday.

During today's ceremony, Charles will recognise leading figures including his friend Alan Titchmarsh, who will receive a CBE for services to horticulture and charity.

World heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson will be made an MBE for services to athletics.

The King had cancelled a planned trip to Birmingham last Friday to prioritise his recovery after requiring a short period of hospital observation.

Over the coming days, Charles will be carrying out a mix of public engagements, state duties and private meetings.

A small number of appointments have been rescheduled to ensure an appropriate balance ahead of the busy state visit to Italy next week.

On Wednesday, the King will fulfil official duties and meetings at Buckingham Palace and hold his weekly audience with the Prime Minister.

The following day he will attend a public engagement in Windsor.

He will also celebrate the 80th anniversary of humanitarian air operator Mission Aviation Fellowship during an event at RAF Northolt in West London on Thursday.

Friday will be spent making final preparations for the state visit to the Republic of Italy.

The royal schedule has been carefully balanced to accommodate the King's ongoing treatment while maintaining his public duties.

The separate state visit to the Holy See has been postponed as the Pope is recovering from a bout of pneumonia.

The Vatican is the world's smallest independent state and serves as the government of the Roman Catholic Church.

Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024 and returned to public-facing duties last April.

He continues to undergo treatment despite maintaining his public schedule.

Sources said last week that the King's visit to the London Clinic was not a major development in his condition.

It was described as the "most minor bump in a road that is very much heading in the right direction".
