King Charles suffers Coronation blow as major world leader pulls out of attending ceremony

However, the US President's wife Jill Biden will attend in his place.

President Biden called the King on Tuesday to inform him of the decision.

The White House released a readout which said: "The President congratulated the King on his upcoming Coronation and informed him that First Lady Jill Biden looks forward to attending on behalf of the United States.

"The President also conveyed his desire to meet with the King in the United Kingdom at a future date."

It comes as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not yet confirmed whether they will attend the ceremony.

The Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle have been invited to the historic event.

However, despite releasing a statement confirming they had received the invitation, the Sussexes have not indicated whether they will attend the Coronation.

Royal commentator Alexander Larman stated that not going to the ceremony could mark the end of the Duke of Sussex's relationship with his family.

Larman told Us Weekly: "If he [doesn’t] go to the Coronation, he’s essentially saying, ‘I am not gonna have any relationship with my family ever again'."

Last week, King Charles was "too busy" to see Prince Harry during the Duke of Sussex's surprise trip to the UK.

Prince Harry attended the hearing of a privacy case against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL).

Prince William and Kate also did not meet with the Duke of Sussex during his trip.

It comes as Prince Harry unleashed multiple attacks on senior members of the Royal Family in his memoir Spare.

Harry fired digs at King Charles's wife Camilla as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales.
