The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance is held annually on the Saturday evening of Remembrance weekend.

The musical performances and personal testimonies honour sacrifices made by the British and Commonwealth armed forces community.

This year's festival will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the contribution of the World War Two generation.

In addition, it also remembers 10 years since the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan as well as 25 years since Nato peacekeeping forces were deployed in Kosovo.

Members of the Royal Family will also appear at the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph today.

The Princess is believed to be returning to official royal duties after temporarily stepping back for eight months after her diagnosis in March to focus on her health and recovery.

Kate's last high-profile appearance was at Wimbledon in July with her daughter, Charlotte, though she accompanied Prince William in Merseyside last month, meeting bereaved families of the Southport stabbing victims.
