The photo shows the princess and her three children beaming into the camera in a picture taken on a patio outside.
Kate wears blue jeans and brown, lace-up boots with a green, zip-up jacket.
Prince George affectionately wraps two arms around his mother's neck and shows a toothy grin.
Royal fans rushed to wish the royal a Happy Mother's Day and a speedy recovery.
One fan said: "Wishing you a wonderful day today with your gorgeous children, and a speedy, full recovery and return in your own good time to public life and engagements."
Kate has not undertaken any royal duties since she was admitted to the London Clinic for abdominal surgery on January 17.
Kensington Palace confirmed that her surgery was "successful" and on January 29 it was announced that the princess was discharged from hospital to recover at home.
The Princess of Wales is not expected to return to any official royal engagements until after Easter.
LATEST ROYAL NEWS:
Last Monday, the princess was photographed by paparazzi in a car with her mother, Carole Middleton.
The pictures were not authorised by Kensington Palace and therefore not released by British media publications.
However, the images were released on a US gossip site.
Following speculation on social media about the whereabouts of the princess, Kensington Palace reaffirmed Kate's recovery timeline stating: "We were very clear from the outset that the Princess of Wales was out until after Easter and Kensington Palace would only be providing updates when something was significant."
