James Middleton has admitted to having mixed emotions this Christmas at home with his family.

The youngest sibling of the Princess of Wales took to Instagram to share a sweet picture of his late dog, Ella, which was hanging on his Christmas tree.

James captioned the post saying: "The angle on our tree watching over us.

"My first Christmas in 16 years without Ella but our first with Inigo.

"Happy Christmas from my family to yours."

James and his wife, Alizee Thevenet, whom he married in 2021, recently welcomed their first child, Inigo.

Their baby boy was born in October 2023, just nine months after James's dog died at the age of 15.

On January 20, Kate's younger brother wrote on Instagram: "It is with great sadness that I announce my dear Ella has passed away.

"For 15 years Ella has been at my side, from my darkest days to my happiest. I’m going to miss her terribly.

"Ella had a very short illness, she slipped away in my arms at home and is now buried in the garden alongside Tilly. I took this picture just a few hours before she died.

"I’m just about holding it together to write this, and despite the fact I knew this day was coming, it doesn’t make it any easier.

"Goodnight my darling Ella, Alizee and the dogs will take good care of me."

On October 27, James announced the birth of his son on Instagram, saying: "He has been in our lives for just a few weeks but they have been the most special of my life getting to know our beautiful baby boy.

"No matter how prepared I thought I was…I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotion of meeting Inigo for the first time and the love for my darling Alizée as we became three.

"We have settled into our new life as parents and I’ve told him all about Ella and that if it wasn’t for her he wouldn’t be here today and that we miss her greatly.

"The dogs have been fantastic at welcoming their little brother into the pack (although Inka needs to know the teddybears are not all for her…)."
