Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been spotted boarding a gas-guzzling private jet for a Las Vegas night out, as Prince William chooses a more eco-friendly travel option to attend a climate event.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took a 40 minute private jet flight from Santa Barbara airport to watch Katy Perry's concert in Nevada, before flying back to California on the same plane.

Hollywood stars Cameron Diaz, Benji Madden and Zoe Saldana were reportedly on the same flight.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry's brother, Prince William, flew commercially to Singapore this weekend to attend his third annual Earthshot Prize awards.

It is understood the future King chose to fly commercially to minimise his environmental impact.

The Earthshot Prize also plans to offset its carbon footprint by replanting trees used during the ceremony and helping to scale up the winning solutions to help repair the planet.

Prince Harry claims he flies commercially 99 per cent of the time, but needs to ensure his "family are safe".

Speaking in 2019, the Duke of Sussex said: "Occasionally, there needs to be an opportunity [to fly on private planes] based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe - it's as simple as that."

"For me it's about balance. It's not a decision I would want to take, but if I have to do that, I will ensure that I balance out the impact that I have."

Prince Harry has been accused of hypocrisy by choosing to fly on private jets, while encouraging the public to be mindful of their environmental impact.

In May, the Duke of Sussex flew commercially to attend King Charles's Coronation.

Inspired by President John F Kennedy's 'Moonshot' to put a man on the moon within a decade, Prince William launched the Earthshot Prize to find 50 solutions to repair our planet by 2030 and encourage hope and optimism.

On Tuesday, five winning solutions will be chosen out of fifteen finalists.

The five Earthshots are: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix our Climate.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has been contacted for comment.
