Donald Trump's former Attorney General Pam Bondi has been diagnosed with cancer.

The American attorney is currently undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer after she received her diagnosis last month.

Ms Bondi was diagnosed after she was fired by the US President at the beginning of April.

The 60-year-old is currently receiving treatment, including surgery several weeks ago, and is recovering, the lawyer told CBS.

Ms Bondi confirmed that she is "doing well".

The wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, Katie, heaped well wishes onto Ms Bondi and declared that "Pam has been quietly kicking cancer's a** the last few weeks".

In a heartfelt post, the podcaster added that the Florida-born politician "has a heart of gold".

Florida Senator Rick Scott also headed to social media to pay tribute to his "dear friend".

"If anyone can beat this, it’s her. Anne and I are praying for Pam and her family as they go through this."

Florida’s official GOP account also lauded Ms Bondi for "spending her life fighting for Florida and our nation with strength and conviction".

The group added: "We know she will face this challenge with that same strength,” the group posted. “We are praying for healing and a swift recovery."

Although Ms Bondi has not shared what type nor what stage of the disease she has, Cleveland Clinic has said that most forms are treatable and permanently curable.

Despite her diagnosis, Ms Bondi is continuing her work in Washington DC.

The American lawyer is set to join the White House's advisory council on artifical intelligence, the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

On her appointment, Vice President JD Vance said: "Pam has been an enormously valuable asset to the President's team, and I'm thrilled for her and for all of us that she's going to remain involved in confronting some of the most important issues the administration faces."

In her new role, she will be joined alongside Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Nvidia co-founder Jensen Huang.

Ms Bondi will help to "facilitate coordination" between the White House and the media and tech expert panellists, Axios revealed.

She is also due to testify this Friday in the House Oversight Committee’s ongoing Jeffrey Epstein probe.

Ahead of the lawyer's sacking, Mr Trump is said to have been critical of his former Attorney General over her handling of the Epstein saga, as well as her overall performance.
