Kamala Harris has been slated for offering no fewer than nine pronoun options for applicants looking to join her campaign team.

Harris, who continues to edge ahead in the polls, is set to appear in Chicago today for the first day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

With campaigns heating up, team Harris is advertising for a spate of job roles - but the Vice President has come under fire for the number of pronouns listed on her website's job application page.

On the page, prospective Harris-Walz staffers can choose to identify using pronouns including "Hu/hu", "Fae/faer" or "Xe/xem" - and can even opt for custom pronouns "so employers can address you correctly".

The Harris for President campaign site lets would-be staffers identify as any number of pronouns at the same time - including both "She/her" and "He/him".

The listing immediately came under fire from popular right-wing social media account End Wokeness, who labelled the application form "weird", prompting followers to compare the options to "mental illness".

In contrast, the Donald Trump campaign careers site makes no mention of pronouns and does not provide any opportunity for applicants to list them.

Images of the job listings went viral soon after End Wokeness highlighted them - but the pronoun controversy pales in comparison to the presidential candidates' recent social media sledging.

Trump took an AI-generated stab at Kamala on Truth Social

Just days ago, Donald Trump made his return to Elon Musk-owned social media site X - or, Twitter, as it used to be known - and began firing off incendiary "Tweets" in characteristic fashion.

But Trump has remained active on his social medium of choice, Truth Social, on which he has turned to AI-generated images of a female politician - strongly implied to be Kamala Harris - addressing a crowd of Communists.

However, the recent uptick in social media swipes doesn't appear to have made much of a dent in the polls.

Of the 15 most recent national polls factored in by analysts at FiveThirtyEight, Harris leads in 13.

Harris runs narrowly ahead by a mere two to three percentage points

The two latest surveys, commissioned by YouGov and CBS News, have Harris narrowly ahead by a mere two to three percentage points - which, while slim, stand in stark contrast to those undertaken just before Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

None of the 15 national polls undertaken in the dying days of Joe Biden's campaign had the incumbent president in the lead, with Trump having been projected to beat his 2020 rival back to the White House.

And with the DNC mere hours away from kicking off, it remains to be seen whether Harris can cement a larger lead.

A smorgasbord of Democratic heavy-hitters - including all the party's living former presidents except Jimmy Carter - are slated to speak over the coming days, with the party set to formally crown who they hope will take the reins in a matter of days.
