Joe Biden is likely to face Donald Trump in a election rematch this November

US President Joe Biden has been defended by a former Democrat strategist, as concerns grow for the US leader's cognitive ability ahead of the November election.

In recent months, Biden has been forced to defend himself against the critics after suffering a string of blunders during public speaking engagements.

Biden has told reporters his "mind is fine" as calls grow for the Democrats to find a replacement for the leader.

As he faces a re-election against Republican candidate Donald Trump, reports suggest former First Lady Michelle Obama could be a top choice candidate for the party.

In a discussion on GBN America, host Patrick Christys was joined by former Democrat strategist Richard Goodstein, who claims Biden is "governing efficiently", despite dwindling support from voters.

Patrick referred to the latest opinion polls, which suggest only 28 per cent of voters believe in Biden running for a second term, and the US leader is "exhibiting more visible signs of cognitive decline" than Trump.

Shutting down Patrick's view, Goodstein claimed that a year ago Biden made the Republicans in congress "look like fools" with his un-prompted State of the Union address.

Goodstein fumed: "That's not what a demented person is capable of doing."

Donald Trump

In defence of Biden's efforts in the Ukraine war in comparison to Trump's stance, Goodstein claimed he is "pulling together the coalition to stand up to Putin effectively".

In criticism of Trump's relationship with Russia, he said: "Trump is saying to the Russia, knock yourself out, take on these European NATO allies. Is that what a sound thinking person says?"

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Goodstein told GBN America: "I hear what you're saying about the polls and I think there's still a lot of Democrats who think maybe it won't even be Biden, but when it is, and it will be Biden against Trump, I think ultimately they will decide that having Trump back in the White House is something they cannot abide to."

Patrick pressed Goodstein again, asking if he is "really convinced" that Biden will be elected for a second term, and that the Democrats won't seek to "parachute in Michelle Obama at the last minute".

He responded: "People who think that are watching too much Fox News. I would love to put down money against the prospect of Michelle Obama, frankly, or any other Democrat being the Democratic nominee.

"It will be Biden. I understand why people somehow have this fantasy, especially on the Republican side because of Trump's legal problems, but it's going to be Trump and then Biden second term."

When asked by Patrick if he believes Biden will "survive" a second term if re-elected, Goodstein fumed and claimed that if a "real doctor" looked at Biden's health versus Trump's, they would find the former President is "doing nothing but eating McDonald's and not moving his body other than sitting in a golf cart".

He added: "I actually think that a internist would tell you they would put better odds on Biden functioning quite well at the end of the next four years than Trump."
