Joe Biden has been branded the “laziest president in history” and “missing in action” over his lack of appearance and dialogue on the Israel-Hamas war.
According to Republican National Committee (RNC) research, Biden said he woke up around 8am, a full eight hours after the attack began.
“He then spoke publicly for two minutes and 55 seconds before shuffling away without taking questions,” the RNC said.
The following day, Biden then chose to call a “lid” - a White House term meaning there will be no news coming out of the White House that day.
After the announcement, Biden hosted a private backyard BBQ complete with a live band and made no public appearance.
Yesterday, Biden declared a second “lid” before noon.
In a social media post titled “Joe Biden is, once again, missing in action”, the RNC said: “Perhaps they're avoiding accountability for their disastrous decision to unlock $6billion (£4.9billion) for the Iranian regime — which they knew ‘could boost the Iran-backed terrorist group Hamas,’ but did it anyway.
US LATEST:
“Or perhaps they are avoiding questions over Rob Malley, Biden’s handpicked choice for special envoy to Iran who is under investigation for mishandling classified documents and his alleged involvement in an Iran-backed spy campaign.
“Either way, it’s another massive foreign policy blunder for Biden — whose incompetence is second only to his arrogance.”
Margaret Thatcher’s former aide Nile Gardiner also threw his weight behind the post, sharing on social media: “Joe Biden is the most useless president in American history. And the laziest too.”
Despite his seeming lack of public appearance, Biden has been making a number of calls in private.
According to Axios, the president participated in two dozen calls, meetings and briefings over the weekend.
A White House spokesperson said Biden was on the phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu within hours of an initial briefing early Saturday morning.
The president told Netanyahu that he would provide Israel with whatever it needed, before spending the rest of the morning in constant communication with his national security team, including Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and CIA Director Bill Burns.
Data shows Biden spent 382 out of his 957 days as president (around 40 per cent) on personal overnight trips.
