Professor Jonathan Turley made the bizarre claims pointing to a distant relative of the president as evidence

A US professor has made the unusual claim that President Joe Biden and his family may be genetically predisposed to commit crimes.

Professor and attorney at George Washington University Law School Jonathan Turley pointed to a distant relative of the president as supposed evidence.

In an opinion article for The Hill, he wrote that the skirting of recent legal troubles by the Bidens was "something of a family trait acquired through generations of natural selection."

President Biden faces a dwindling threat of impeachment, stemming from allegations of corruption and bribery levelled by Republicans. He has denied wrongdoing and is not facing any criminal charges.

Writing in the article, he said: "Biden family members often marshal political allies and media to kill investigations or cut sweetheart deals… [and] swim in scandal with the ease and agility of a bottlenose dolphin...It turns out that it may be something of a family trait acquired through generations of natural selection."

Turley points to the the case of the president’s great-great-grandfather Moses Robinette. Robinette was a government contractor during the US Civil War, who was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to two years of hard labour.

According to Turley, friends and political allies of Robinette wrote to then-president Abraham Lincoln so that he might grant him clemency.

Turley says that the final argument put forward for Robinette’s case was "quintessentially Bidenesque...They told Lincoln that he was a political ally who was ‘ardent, and Influential … in opposing Traitors and their schemes to destroy the Government.' (It appears, even back then, the Bidens were union men.)"

Robinette was ultimately pardoned by Lincoln.

Examining the charges against President Biden and his son Hunter Biden in greater depth, Turley concludes: "After generations, the Bidens are still showing the same nimble qualities of great-great-granddad Moses."

Earlier today, Hunter Biden arrived to testify behind closed doors at the impeachment inquiry into his father, which House Republicans are pushing ahead with even after the person who provided accusations at the heart of their case was charged with lying to the FBI.

House Republicans allege that President Biden and his family improperly profited from policy decisions Biden participated in as vice president during President Barack Obama's administration in 2009-17. So far they have not presented evidence to back up these claims.

Hunter Biden and the White House have denied wrongdoing and say the probe is politically motivated.

Meanwhile Donald Trump, who is the leading Republican candidate to take on Biden as both seek a second four-year term, has publicly encouraged the impeachment.

Former President Trump was the only US president to be impeached twice, though he was acquitted both times by the Senate.

GB News has approached the White House about Turley's comments.
