The 45th President returned to Manhattan to testify in an ongoing civil fraud case

Donald Trump has slammed his former attorney Michael Cohen as a "proven liar" as the former President faces yet another legal challenge.

The 77-year-old, who launched his third successive White House bid last year, was at a courthouse in Manhattan earlier today for his civil fraud case.

Cohen was once dubbed Trump's "fixer" but is now testifying against the ex-Commander-in-Chief at the New York Supreme Court.

Trump said: "He’s a proven liar, as you know, a felon, served a lot of time for lying and we’re going to just go in and see that and I think you’ll see that for yourself.

"So he’s a liar and trying to get a better deal for himself but it’s not going to work this case by any other judge, this case would have been over a long time ago.

"We did nothing wrong and that’s the truth."

Cohen arrived at the Manhattan courthouse before the 45th President and revealed he was "looking forward to the reunion" with his former boss.

The 57-year-old, who served more than 13 months in jail after being convicted of fraud and perjury, added: "It’s been five years since we’ve been in the same room."

Cohen emerged as a star witness against Trump after serving his sentence.

He is expected to provide a high-profile testimony in the trial brought forward by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

James is investigating alleged efforts by the Trump Organisation to inflate the value of assets to obtain tax breaks and favourable loans.

Addressing his decision to lie to Congress about Trump's attempts to purchase a property in Russia, Cohen said: "I did that at the direction and benefit of Mr Trump."

Another former Trump lawyer pleaded guilty in a separate case brought against the ex-President.

Jenna Ellis was reduced to tears after confessing to one count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings in the Georgia 2020 election overturn case.

She said: "In the frenetic pace of attempting to raise challenges to the election in several states, including Georgia, I failed to do my due diligence.

"I believe in and I value election integrity. And if I knew then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post election challenges."
