The shooter has been identified by the FBI and is confirmed dead
The horrifying moment of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump has been captured in a series of dramatic images.
Trump, 78, appeared to clutch his face as shots rang out at his rally in Pennsylvania.
The former President ducked to the floor and was quickly surrounded by secret service agents when the gunman opened fire at around 6.13pm.
He was just 10 minutes into his speech in Butler when the event was interrupted by gunshots.
As he left the podium surrounded by Secret Service agents, he stopped to raise a fist as blood could be seen splattered across his face from his ear.
Trump was taking aim at Joe Biden over southern border crossings before the shooting and left the scene in a motorcade.

Following the attack, local district attorney Richard Goldfinger, confirmed an audience member was killed following the shooting.
Another member of the crowd was injured.
In a statement on his Truth social media, he extended his condolences to the family members of the man who was killed and the other who was injured.
He said: “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country.”

He went on to confirm that the shooter was now dead.
Trump continued: “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.
“Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
The post received more than 215,000 likes and had 52,000 ‘ReTruths’ on his social media account Truth.
Condemning the attack. President Joe Biden said in a statement: “I'm grateful to hear that he's safe and doing well.
“I'm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety.
“There's no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

Florida Senator Marco Rubio also chimed in, saying: “Praying for President Trump and all those attending the rally in Pennsylvania today.”
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage described the incident as “disgusting”
“Mainstream media have spread a narrative of hatred against my friend Donald Trump,” the Clacton MP said.
“I hope they are proud of themselves. Disgusting people.”

A statement from Downing Street added: “We are shocked by the scenes at President Trump's rally in Pennsylvania.
“We condemn all forms of political violence in the strongest terms and we send our best wishes to President Trump and his family at this time.”
