Ulez hypocrisy: Ed Davey asks for EXEMPTION in his own constituency despite voting for it
PA
The leader of the Lib Dems wrote a letter to Sadiq Khan raising concerns about the impact of the expansion saying it is "very damaging" - just months after his party backed the proposal
Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey has been mocked for hypocrisy over the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone.
While the party supported the expansion of the tariff across London, Davey has since come out to ask for an exemption for his own constituency.
He wrote a letter to Sadiq Khan raising concerns about the impact of the expansion, saying it is "very damaging" to the residents and businesses located there.
This is despite his party backing the expansion, proposed by Labour.
Davey called for the newly expanded ULEZ boundary to be moved

London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, Peter Fortune, slammed the party for "supporting Ulez for everybody but themselves"
Davey called for the newly expanded ULEZ boundary to be moved from the crossroads of Leatherhead Road with Fairoak Lane and Rushett Lane to the A3 at the Hook roundabout, saying this would "leave Hook and Chessington outside the extended ULEZ".
The letter, published on 23 August, saw the Lib Dem leader claim that Hook and Chessington "overwhelmingly border Surrey".
He claimed that the area would face "disporiotionate" impact from Ulez, explaining that local businesses have "staff and customers visiting them from the many sides of Surrey that border them and fear the impact will be greater here than anywhere else in London".
Fortune told GB News: "This is another example of Lib Dem hypocrisy on ULEZ.
"They could have voted with us to stop this at the London Assembly but they chose to vote with Labour and the Greens to support ULEZ expansion to the whole of outer London.
"Yet here we see their Leader, Ed Davey, asking for his part of London to be exempt!
"It seems the Lib Dems support ULEZ for everybody but themselves."
Sadiq Khan has faced mounting pressure for his expansion of Ulez, with many calling for the tariff to be scrapped.
The £12.50 Ulez charge applies to vehicles that do not meet up-to-date emissions standards.
It was recently expanded to cover the whole of London, having previously covered just inner London.
If a vehicle does not meet Ulez emission standards, drivers who fail to pay receive a penalty charge notice of up to £180.
This is reduced to £90 if paid within two weeks. The fines increased in January from £160 and £80 respectively.
Last week, protesters descended upon Westminster to demand the scheme's reversal - and Mr Khan's resignaiton.
