Farage announced he will be leading the party into the 4 July vote

Former Reform UK leader Richard Tice says more votes being cast for his party than the Tories at the upcoming election is “well achievable”.

It comes after Nigel Farage announced he will be leading the party into the 4 July vote and beyond.

Speaking on GB News, the man who stepped aside for the ex-Ukip chief, Richard Tice, told Patrick Christys that his party is feeling buoyant.

Asked just how well Reform can do at the General Election, he said the insurgent party could achieve more votes cast than the Conservatives.

“It is well achievable. It looks like six, seven maybe eight million votes.

“Something is happening out there, it’s extraordinary. Like Nigel Farage said, it’s like a people’s revolt.”

Upon taking the reins from Tice, Farage told a room full of reporters that he intends to lead a “political revolt”.

He had previously planned not to stand, but he said he had a “terrible sense of guilt” over the weekend and decided to U-turn.

“Difficult though it is, I can’t let down those millions of people, I simply can’t do it, it’d be wrong.

“So I have decided I’ve changed my mind, it’s allowed you know, it’s not always a sign of weakness, it could potentially be a sign of strength.

“So I am going to stand in this election.”

The Conservatives have spoken out on Farage’s decision to stand, urging voters to back them if they are against the idea of Sir Keir Starmer becoming prime minister.

A party spokesman said: “Nigel Farage risks handing Keir Starmer a blank cheque to rejoin the EU, impose the retirement tax on pensioners and hike taxes on hardworking Brits up and down the UK.

“Farage knows that Reform won’t win any seats, but he doesn’t seem to care that a vote for Reform only helps Labour. He’s doing exactly what Keir Starmer wants him to do.”

Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper said: “The Conservative Party has already become the mirror image of Nigel Farage’s Reform.

“Rishi Sunak’s constant pandering to Reform has horrified former lifelong Conservative voters in the centre ground.

“Sunak must show some backbone and rule out Farage ever joining the Conservative Party in future, including if he gets elected to be an MP.”
