Nigel Farage wants someone who is "not the usual Foreign Office stooge" after being tipped for an ambassadorial role if Donald Trump wins the US election.
The GB News host is in attendance at the Conservative Political Action Conference [CPAC] in Washington and is likely to be speaking to Trump whilst he is there.
The Republican Conference is set to showcase what the party has to offer ahead of the election and will give Trump the chance to reunify the party's members and appeal to potential voters.
Farage and Trump have held a close relationship for many years, with the former US President once suggesting that Farage should be British ambassador to the US when he first became president in 2017.

Stuart Mitchell / GB NewsSpeaking about whether he could take up the role this time around if Trump is successful, Farage said: "I don't know. I mean, if you go back to 2016 and the fact that Trump won, the Conservative government didn't expect it.
"They didn't even have a telephone number for his campaign team.

"It was him that said in 2017, shortly after becoming president, 'wouldn't it be a good thing if Nigel was the ambassador in Washington, DC?'
"That of course was something the Conservative Party couldn't contemplate.

"All I will say is that we are at a very important moment in terms of military alliances.
"If Labour win the British election, given some of the things that David Lammy and others have said about Donald Trump, it is going to be vital for us that we have an ambassador on behalf of the UK in Washington that can actually have a relationship with the Trump administration.
"If I'm the right person for that, wonderful. If I'm not, well, let's find someone who's not the usual Foreign Office stooge."
He also explained: "I think the world needs Trump more now than it ever did before, and I think even his fiercest critic would admit that in terms of foreign policy, he was a peacemaker.

Farage was the first British politician to meet Trump after the New York billionaire’s victory in the presidential election, attending Trump Tower in Manhattan for a talk which reportedly involved Trump’s supposed willingness to reinstall a bust of Churchill in the Oval Office.
