Three Welsh Councillors have defected as Independent candidates to form the first Reform UK council group in Wales

Lee Anderson has championed the success of Reform UK as the party has welcomed three Welsh councillors into the party, forming their first Welsh council group.

The Ashfield MP travelled to Pontypool where he met Torfaen Borough Councillors Jason O’Connell, Alan Slade and Dave Thomas, where they became Reform representatives.

Hailing the councillors on GB News, Anderson praised the three new Reform members for making the "brave, bold and right decision" to join the party, claiming they are "brilliant" additions.

Anderson told host Martin Daubney: "It's a historic moment, and the feeling I got around the town and in the pub that we went into after is that Reform, the people's army, are now on the marching in Wales.

"And that's wonderful news for the people of Wales, who quite frankly, have been let down for donkey's years by the Labour Party."

Pressing Anderson on whether Reform UK can "make a difference" in Wales, given that Labour currently hold 29 out of 40 seats there, the Ashfield MP affirmed: "It's a lot different now, the actual feeling out there on the ground, on the doorstep.

"People out there want change and Reform UK offers something different. People are sick to death of voting for something and getting something completely different."

Affirming the party's message after branding Labour "useless" in a video posted to social media of the new Welsh councillors, Anderson declared that Reform will "stick to their guns" with their policies.

Anderson told GB News: "We'll keep pumping the same message out to people all over the country. Not just in England, in Wales, in Scotland as well.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"And I tell you what, we've got Senate elections in two years in Wales. They've got PR in Wales, and we're going to win seats."

Offering a chance for Martin to join the party, led by Nigel Farage, Anderson quipped: "Martin, if you fancy standing, get your centres at Swansea, go and move there for a few years and learn a bit of Welsh.

"And who knows, you could be in the Senate in two years!"

Martin laughed as he declined Anderson's offer, admitting: "My Welsh is worse than my King's English!"

Turning the discussion to the latest polling from WeThink, which places Reform UK with an increase of five points and Labour down six points since the election, Anderson echoed his point that Britons are "fed up" with the current state of UK politics.

Anderson explained: "Politics changes very quickly these days, people are fed up. Look at the last election, Labour got a massive landslide, but the actual amount of people who voted for Keir Starmer was well down.

"People are fed up of voting for one thing and getting another. They've seen now that Reform has got five world-class MPs in Westminster, and we've got councillors now.

"Our membership has shot up from 20,000 when I first joined to nearly 80,000, and people are joining every single day. Donors are coming on board too."
