London is calling for change but is getting nothing but silence from Sadiq Khan

Ask any Londoner, and they’ll tell you they’ve noticed an increase in crime.

And that’s hardly a shock – because under Sadiq Khan’s watch, 36 of our local police stations have shut their doors for good.

For many, this has meant whole areas of our communities feeling abandoned and crime rates skyrocketing.

It’s like the heart of our local police has been ripped out, replaced with these faceless "basic command units" that are meant to cover whole swathes of London.

So, when trouble strikes, our police are nowhere to be seen, stuck in traffic miles away, instead of being right there with us, on our streets, where we need them.

Getting rid of our police stations like this has been a disaster. In some parts of London, it’s left no local hubs or facilities for police officers to use.

The result? Criminals are having a field day, running rings around the police and causing mayhem on the streets. And it feels like Sadiq Khan doesn’t want to know.

London’s calling for change but getting nothing but silence from Sadiq Khan. He just won’t listen.

What we need is clear and simple: get police officers back on patrol in all our boroughs.

Each area should have its own borough commander who knows about the local area and the people they’re protecting. And every borough should have police stations or hubs that police officers can use.

This isn’t a new idea. When I was leader of Harrow council, we didn’t just sit around hoping that crime would sort itself out.

We got stuck in, bringing the community and the police together with schemes like Neighbourhood Champions. And it worked. Harrow became one of the safest places in London, not by chance, but because we listened and acted.

The upcoming election could be a turning point for Londoners.

Do we stick with Sadiq Khan, who has seen our streets become playgrounds for criminals?

Or do we choose a Mayor who listens, and who will get a grip of crime.

I’m here to say, enough is enough. It’s time for a Mayor who actually listens to what London needs and does something about it.

Let’s get our police back on our streets and make London a place where we all feel safe again. Together, we can make it happen.
