Syrian tyrant Bashar al-Assad was ousted yesterday, feeing to Russia as rebel forces took control of the country he once ruled.

But as attention now turns to shaping Syria's future, GB New is asking: Is the UK is still a player on the world stage?

Last night Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the UK welcomes the fall of Bashar Assad’s “barbaric regime” and called for the restoration of “peace and stability”.

However, it appeared unclear what role - if any - the UK would play in shaping international conversation around Syria's future.

The Prime Minister said it was still “early days” when asked if Britain would engage with the rebels, a banned terror group, but insisted on the need for a “political solution” to safeguard Syria’s future.

He added: "The developments in Syria in recent hours and days are unprecedented, and we are speaking to our partners in the region and monitoring the situation closely."

So, do you think the UK is still a player on the world stage? Vote in our poll above.
