OPINION - Kelvin MacKenzie is backing Nigel Farage to win big with the support of Elon Musk

Here are some astonishing facts. In the general election Reform averaged just one seat for every 823,000 who voted for them. The Lib Dims, with their knowledge of electioneering tricks, got a seat for every 49,000 votes and the Tories 56,000 votes for every seat.

If, as is being reported, Elon Musk puts his money and his huge tech mind, behind Reform that will be the last time Nigel Farage’s policies won’t be rewarded by a huge Parliamentary swing.

I feel we are on the edge of a political earthquake, an explosion which is going to have the same beneficial effect on our nation as the moment Margaret Thatcher walked into No.10.

While bizarrely Tory leader Kemi Badenoch talked about flat taxes (she might as well have talked about the flat earth) Nigel Farage was 3,000 miles away discussing policy and donations with Elon Musk who currently doubles as the richest man on earth ( $255billion) and probably the cleverest man on earth.

Out of those discussions came the nod that Musk, who did so much through his wallet and his mind to put Trump into the White House, was seriously considering putting many millions behind Reform.

The effect would be transformative. Much of the money would go on data collection, they key weapon in campaigning and where Reform could make up the most ground on other parties.

By purchasing databases Reform would be able to build a demographic map of the UK. Further, they could then commission polls to build up a picture of what issues matter to most people from different demographics.

Farage would then discover what voters in one area most worried about and then use social media to reach those people to explain what their policy was on that particular issue. Sounds narrow but that’s how 21st century campaigning works.

The reality is that a lot of the money would go a mixture of tech and advertising. Reform hasn’t got that cash ( it gets £1million from the state) so Musk would be a lifeblood.

Labour is already working on the assumption that Reform will be a bigger threat than the Tories with the Musk money. In a Times story a government spokesman was quoted as saying they were thinking of making donation reform which would stop Musk giving his money to Reform.

That would be a huge mistake on two fronts. Firstly, the voter would hate the idea that big old Labour was trying to crush little old Reform. Nobody likes a bully. Being the little guy, the outsider, has been a tremendous boon to Farage as it has been to Trump.

But more importantly, Reform would then announce that when they came to power they would be stopping the trade unions from sending their millions to Labour.

Already, according to Oddschecker, Farage is favourite to be the next Prime Minister with the best odds being 5/2, Badenoch is 3/1 and Wes Streeting 16/1. Personally I discount Badenoch as I don’t believe she will be leader in five years time- especially if she is talking about changing the tax structure of the country rather than talking about things that really matter to our people.

The man with the following wind is Farage but he must look after himself. If he were to fall under a bus I’m afraid Reform would die him.

Polling experts say even if Musk doesn’t hand over any money Reform would still win 100 seats at an election. But as the Lib Dims have proved with their 72 seats that won’t get you anywhere.

Reform needs at least 200 seats and that become possible with the Musk money. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
