Kelvin MacKenzie delivers his verdict on Gary Lineker's latest social media outburst

How many times can Gary Lineker get away with it?

This time he has retweeted a Palestine campaign group calling for Israel to be banned from international footbalI.

Isn’t it odd that Lineker, who is paid £1.3million a year from your BBC licence fee, never seems to mention excluding Iran from tournaments even though they beat to death a young girl for not wearing a hijab,

In truth I don’t want him to be embroiled in any political discussion. If he wants free speech ( and I do want him to be able to say what he thinks) he can’t do it when funded by the taxpayer.

The BBC should let him go. I’m sure there would be a healthy queue to hire him, although I must say when I watched him on Match of the Day last Saturday night he didn’t appear all that that engaged.

How is it that he has contract which allows him to be involved in political issues?

Nobody else at the BBC, sport or news, has been given that freedom and were they to start spouting off on X they would be out of a job faster that Wayne Rooney.

The reality is that he his making a fool of Tim Davie, the Director General. I have a solution.

Mr Lineker is a freelance. Why not let his contract run out?

Or simply pay up his contract, thank him for decades of service and wish him well on TalkSPORT or wherever he turns up.
