Michael Frison, from Somerset disappeared on Sardinia after feeling unwell

The mother of a British tourist has flown out to Sardinia in an urgent search for her son who disappeared after feeling unwell.

Michael Frison was reported missing near Luogosanto at around 5.18pm on Saturday, July 13, after he became "confused" and he has not been heard from since.

The 25-year-old from Somerset had been visiting his relatives and was due to carry out volunteer work on the island.

His mum Cristina Pittalis made an emotional Facebook appeal to find her son and travelled out to try and find him last week.

On a fundraising page, Evie Baker wrote: "He was due to start some volunteering but felt unwell, not used to the hot climate and possibly dehydrated he was given water and went to sleep.

"When he woke he said he was going for a walk and now sadly he is missing. I can't tell you how genuinely lovely this family is I'm absolutely heartbroken for them."

Cristina told ITV: "Michael, I want you to know that I'm not looking for you because I want to hold you close to me. I just want to know that you're alive and you're well. I need to know. How can I live my life not knowing? I just want to know that you're okay."

Firefighters and the local Forest Guard police were involved in a massive search but they called it off last Friday.

Cristina previously said: "He is a very sweet boy, you can approach him without fear, please, if you see him stop him, talk to him, but don't leave him alone. I saw it please.

"Tell them about mommy and her baby brother. Please, if you can, look in your lands, in your homes. If you get a chance, please go and help with the research.

"But don't go alone, blindly, talk to fire groups, or civil protection, offer your support, ask what and how you can help. They know how to move, and how to coordinate the research groups Please, we need your help."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise money for the family. A spokesperson from the Foreign Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Sardinia and are in contact with the local authorities."

Cristina described her son as: "He's 5'7 tall, brown, long hair, shaved sides. Beach pic was taken last week, so very current."
