The flight was taking more than passengers from Buenos Aires to Frankfurt
Eleven people have been left injured after a Lufthansa flight encountered severe turbulence whilst travelling over the Atlantic Ocean on Monday.
The Boeing 747-8, carrying 329 passengers and 19 crew members, was en route from Buenos Aires to Frankfurt when the incident occurred.
The aircraft had departed from Buenos Aires' Ezeiza International Airport and was flying through an intertropical convergence zone when it experienced the brief but intense turbulence.
"Unfortunately, five passengers and six crew members suffered mostly minor injuries," a Lufthansa spokesperson said.

The injuries occurred when some passengers were not wearing their seatbelts during the turbulent conditions.
The incident affected both passengers and crew members aboard the aircraft, which was operating with a total complement of 348 people.
Flight data revealed a dramatic speed drop during the incident, with the aircraft's velocity plummeting from 511 knots (588mph) to just 180 knots (280mph) in under a minute.
The plane had initially climbed to 33,000ft before encountering the turbulence over the Atlantic.
In an attempt to avoid the pocket of bad weather, the pilots then tried to climb further to 35,000ft.

'The safety of the flight was not in jeopardy at any time,' the Lufthansa spokesperson assured.
The injured passengers and crew members received immediate medical attention upon landing.
All affected individuals were transported to hospital after arriving at Frankfurt Airport.
This incident follows a more severe case in May when a Singapore Airlines flight experienced similar turbulence over Myanmar, resulting in one death from a suspected heart attack and 30 injuries.
