The US has made their support for Israel clear since the beginning of the war
Iran has directly warned the US that it will "not be spared from this fire" of war if the bombing of Gaza does not stop.
Tehran's foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the comments at the United Nations among an exchange of words from a number of different countries.
He said: "I say frankly to the American statesmen, who are now managing the genocide in Palestine, that we do not welcome [an] expansion of the war in the region. But if the genocide in Gaza continues, they will not be spared from this fire."
The US has made their support for Israel clear since the beginning of the war on October 7 and has consistently stressed how the country has a right to defend itself.
Israeli Defence Forces have been carrying out their counter-offensive in Gaza, which has seen 7,000 people killed, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has insisted that his country is solely focused on fighting a war with Hamas and not with any other nation.
"We are waging war on the southern front against Hamas, prepared for any development in the north, Hezbollah is suffering many losses. However, we have no interest in expanding the war," Gallant said.
When asked about the prospect of a Gaza ground invasion, Gallant said it wasn't "far off", but that Israel is waiting for prime conditions.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Earlier today, the US military launched airstrikes on two locations in eastern Syria linked to Iran's revolutionary guard corps, the Pentagon confirmed.
Last week a number of drone and missile attacks hit US bases and personnel in the region.
In a statement, defence secretary Lloyd Austin said the "precision self-defence strikes are a response to a series of ongoing and mostly unsuccessful attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed militia groups that began on October 17".
In a bid to deter more aggression, the US plan to hit Iranian-backed groups suspected of targeting the US as strongly as possible.
A large but unknown number of British Palestinians stuck in the region have sparked concern as Israel's invasion looms.
The British Government's emergency COBRA committee have met to discuss evacuating Britons trapped in Gaza.
Rishi Sunak said there needs to be a "safer environment" to allow stranded British nationals to leave.
