Greta Thunberg has sparked uproar online after an influx of social media users called out the climate activist for an "antisemitic" post.

The eco-warrior deleted the post which featured a stuffed animal - a symbol for antisemitism.

Thunberg explained that there had been a mix up with the post which included a toy that is "often used by autistic people as a way to communicate feelings".

She wrote: "It has come to my knowledge that the stuffed animal shown in my earlier post can be interpreted as a symbol for antisemitism, which I was completely unaware of.

"The toy in the picture is a tool often used by autistic people as a way to communicate feelings.

"We are of course against any type of discrimination, and condemn antisemitism in all forms and shapes. This is non-negotiable. That is why I deleted the last post."

Thunberg posted the new photo without the toy in vision and holding a sign which reads: "Stand with Gaza" as she shared her support for Palestine.

Her post was captioned saying: "Today we strike in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza.

"The world needs to speak up and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected."

Many social media users criticised the climate change campaigner, with one person describing her comments as "shocking and disappointing".

It comes after Thunberg was detained by police outside the InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane where oil executives were meeting on Tuesday.

Eco activists attempted to block access to the three day conference at the InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane.

Met Police said they arrested the activists after they refused to move.

Yesterday, the group moved to block the entrances of the JP Morgan bank by sitting on the pavement chanting “oily money out” and waving yellow flags and banners.

Fossil Free London said the bank has been a major source of funding of fossil fuel projects since the Paris Agreement.
