A mass stabbing attack in Germany has reportedly left five people injured with three critically.

Local media reports the bus was on its way to the city festival in Siegen when a woman started attacking people with a knife.


At least 40 passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the attack. Police in the city in North Rhine-Westphalia said it is not believed to be a terrorist attack.

There is a heavy police presence at the scene. According to local media, emergency chaplains are currently on site caring for the passengers who are in shock.

A woman, reported to be 32-years-old has been arrested at the scene.

Dortmund police have taken over the investigation and are leading the operation.

A police spokesperson that all of the injured are being treated in hospitals. They added that there is no information that can be given at this time about the health of those who are critically injured.

The spokesperson said in a statement: "We ask citizens not to spread false information on social networks or other channels, and especially not to make any reference to a terrorist attack. The police have no information on this."

It has been reported a woman stabbed people on the bus at random.

Local district administrator Andreas Müller arrived at the scene of the stabbing and told local media he was "shocked" by the incident.
