Emergency services pronounced the victim dead at the scene after she sustained multiple catastrophic injuries

A Brazilian woman has died after bungee jump workers pushed her from a bridge without attaching her safety rope, causing her to plummet approximately 40 metres to her death.

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, fell from the Ponte do Esqueleto, known as Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo state, on Saturday morning.

The recent graduate in physical education and sports management was participating in a rope-jumping activity organised by a private company when staff failed to secure her to the elastic cord before launching her from the platform.

Emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene after she sustained multiple catastrophic injuries.

Footage circulating on social media captured the moments before the fatal fall, showing two crew members guiding Ms Rodrigues de Freitas onto the jumping platform.

Witnesses told Military Police event staff appeared to have forgotten to connect the safety line before sending her over the edge.

Immediately after she was launched, onlookers can be heard screaming warnings about the unattached rope, but it was too late.

Bystanders attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation while awaiting the arrival of SAMU, Brazil's emergency medical service.

Paramedics and firefighters who reached the location could only confirm her death, with multiple trauma cited as the cause.

Shortly before the incident, Ms Rodrigues de Freitas had shared photographs on Instagram showing her wristbands and images of the bridge setup. "Who was the crazy person who let me come jump off a bridge???" she wrote in a caption.

Her posts included a banner for Entre Cordas, the company reportedly responsible for organising the activity.

The woman's fiancé was also present at the event and required medical attention after becoming unwell upon learning of her death. He was transported to hospital for treatment.

Ms Rodrigues de Freitas, a resident of Jandira in Greater São Paulo, had her Instagram profile removed hours after the tragedy.

Authorities have detained six individuals connected to the event, comprising five men and one woman.

According to local outlet Rápido no Ar, some organisers fled the scene following the incident. Two suspects who escaped were subsequently tracked down with assistance from a police helicopter searching a wooded area near the bridge.

The case has been referred to the 2nd Police District of Limeira, with Brazil's Civil Police now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Officials are examining who was responsible for securing the safety equipment and whether proper protocols were followed. Authorities will determine if criminal charges will be brought against those involved in organising the event.
