A packed Boeing jet suffered a nightmare take-off when the plane's tail scraped along the runway causing a cloud of smoke.
The Latam 777-300 was left with significant damage after the back end failed to rise at Milan Malpensa Airport.
The jet left a thick cloud of smoke and falling debris behind it as it tried to touch down.
The passenger jet, scheduled to head off to Sao Paulo, Brazil, was forced to return to Italy due to the mangled tail as security ordered an immediate inspection.

Data from FlightRadar showed the plane spent around 75 minutes looping around the Milan Malpensa Airport nine times. Italian authorities say they are still investigating the blunder and are working with officials from Brazil and the US, reports The Sun.
Footage shows the Boeing jet, which normally holds up to 500 passengers, travelling at speed across the runway with its nose gradually rising as it prepares for take-off.
The Latam pilot then spends 10 seconds trying to lift up the tail as it drags along the ground. As the flight continuously grates across the ground thick plumes of grey smoke erupt, leaving a trail for hundreds of feet.
A large piece of the plane was seen falling off the plane and left sitting along the runway.

It comes after a Boeing 747 was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines burst into flames during take-off.
The aircraft, travelling from Indonesia, could be seen hurtling down the runway when a jet of fire was thrown out of its right-hand-side engine.
Many of those on board - travelling from Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim country - would be going on to complete "Hajj" pilgrimages to Islam's holy city of Mecca.
However, the incident forced pilots to land the plane, before all on board were safely evacuated.
In May, a Boeing 737 plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Japan just minutes after taking off.
The United Airlines Flight with 50 passengers onboard returned to Fukuoka Airport before the runway was closed for routine safety checks.
Police have said that nobody was injured and it is believed the cause may have been an irregularity with a wing flap.
