Some social media users slammed the president’s aides for failing to acknowledge the nation’s 248th birthday

Joe Biden has been blasted over his official social media account’s banner which still celebrates Pride Month - and has no mention of July 4.

Social media users dubbed the move "shameful" while others slammed the president’s aides for failing to acknowledge the nation’s 248th birthday.

One user wrote: "Biden’s July 4th profile banner is still all about pride month. Shameful!"

Another added: "Can someone please let Biden know #Pride month is over."

It follows Biden's car crash presidential debate against Donald Trump last week which has seen his aides faced with calls for the president to step aside.

"On July 4th, ‘Happy Pride Month’ is displayed from the banner of the Potus’ X account. Biden’s handlers are getting sloppy," one user wrote.

Other users took aim at White House staff who tried to blame his performance - which included a hoarse voice, stumbling over words, and lost trains of thought - by claiming he was recovering from a cold.

"People who are criticising President Biden for still having the pride flag up on the Fourth of July should stop. Remember, he still has a cold," another jokingly wrote.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

However, the banner on his X account was changed on Thursday to read "Happy Fourth of July" following the uproar.

Another two July 4 posts were published from his official account on Thursday.

One read: "Happy Independence Day, America! May God bless you all.

"And may God protect our troops."

It comes as the Republicans launch a campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris after she emerged as the frontrunner to replace Joe Biden - who could quit the presidential race within days according to a key ally.

Harris has been a staunch defender of Biden and has pushed back on concerns about his age and apparent deteriorating cognitive abilities.

However, a recent CNN poll has shown that Harris would be more likely to win in key demographics, including ethnic minority voters and independents if she became the Democrat candidate.
