Joe Biden and Donald Trump should “leave the stage” and make way for younger candidates in the race for the US presidency, ex-White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci has claimed.

While Scaramucci worked under the Trump administration in 2017, his stint lasted only a matter of days, and he has since been critical of the 77-year-old.

He joined Ben Leo and Emily Carver on GB News to preview November’s vote and whether he backs a second term for Trump.

It is widely expected the Republican wins the race for his party’s nomination, with Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy bowing out of the race after Trump’s heavy win in the Iowa caucus.

Biden remains insistent he will be the Democrat candidate, despite doubts lingering over whether his age hinders him from carrying out the Commander-in-Chief role to the best of his abilities.

Scaramucci told GB News that he would prefer a different candidate from the aforementioned two.

Asked whether he will put his Trump grievances aside to support his party, he said: “I’m a patriot first and a partizan second. I’m more interested in preserving American democracy and the decentralised nature of American government and the separation clause in our constitution.”

He added: “It has basically led to a flat society, less aristocratic society and more meritocratic society.

“My family has benefited from the flatness of that government and the lack of status and class stuff that happens in the United States.

“It’s [US election] a placeholder for four years until we find more young people that want to take on the challenges that America is facing in the world.

“I don’t like the fact that the combined age of these two candidates is 159. These are ageing baby boomers that don’t want to leave the stage, and frankly I wish they would.”

Despite his Republican roots, Scaramucci added that he would back Biden if the election is a rematch between him and Trump, as the 81-year-old “upholds democracy”.

Biden has frequently sought to defuse concerns about his advanced health with humour, asking a reporter in September 2019 if he wants to “wrestle” after he asked to commit to releasing his medical records.

Scaramucci lashed out at Trump during his interview, accusing him of wanting to be a “dictator”.

“Unfortunately, the United States has decided to put up Joe Biden and Donald Trump and so you have two choices on choosing the person that's going to reform the American institutions of the democracy and the American system.

“Mr Trump has already said he doesn't want to do that, he wants to be dictator for a day. He wants to expand the executive powers, he wants to persecute”, he said.

“He wants to use what has typically been an agnostic Justice Department, but he wants to use that to persecute his political adversaries.”

“This is not stuff that the UK, the rest of the world, our European allies or global allies, will think highly of once he's in office and so I'm speaking out against it. He's not going to win by the way…”
