The pair have faced criticism over their public endeavours

America has “no appetite” for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after a series of “failures”, Lee Cohen has claimed.

The ex-Great Britain adviser to the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee responded to GB News’s Mark Dolan branding them a “laughing stock”.

The pair have faced criticism over their public endeavours since venturing across the pond in 2020 after stepping back from frontline royal duties.

“The Sussexes have had failure after failure and setback after setback”, he said.

“Their first failure, of course, was that they failed to harm the monarchy in the Royal Family.

“Americans have no appetite for what the Sussexes are selling. While initially they were received with a great deal of interest, Americans, like Brits, don’t have patience for negativity, for victimhood narratives, for trashing one’s family, for monetary gain, and certainly for hypocrisy.

“So their popularity in the United States continues to plunge.”

The Sussexes have put on a more transparent showing since stepping back from royal duties with a swathe of media appearances.

As well as a Netflix documentary, Harry has published a memoir, Spare, which became the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time.

A poll conducted by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek concluded in December that the couple’s approval had surged.

Harry saw a 17-point swing from September 2023 after previously holding an approval rating of 12.

Meghan also saw a 17-point jump in December amongst a representative sample of 1,500 Americans who were asked what they thought of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Despite this, Cohen believes the couple could end up suffering financially due to negative publicity.

Asked whether Meghan and Harry risk going broke, Cohen responded: “Of course.”

“I hope they have someone responsible controlling their finances”, he said.

“Someone who’s better adept at that goal than whoever is advising them on their messaging.”
