The staggering moment was captured by the family's CCTV camera

A courageous cat in North Dakota is owed a huge debt by the family dog, after it chased off two coyotes in a dramatic rescue job.

In staggering footage captured by the family’s CCTV camera, Oakley, who was outside doing her business, was latched upon by two ravenous creatures.

Much to the relief of the Dyer family, Binx the cat showed off its sixth sense and risked it all to chase off the attackers.

Homeowner Lane Dyer told Fox News that Oakley had not emerged injury free from the frightening affair.

“Oakley scampered in the house and ran upstairs”, Dyer told Fox News.

“She had been cut open on her chest and side and was bleeding profusely.”

Dyer’s wife stepped in to put pressure on the wounds before rushing her off to the emergency vet.

“We had no idea what happened”, he added.

While en route to the vet, the family were able to gather their thoughts and assess what really happened with their security footage.

Much to their surprise, they spotted Binx step in to save the life of their pup.

“She knew exactly what was going on. With no hesitation, she acted”, Dyer said.

“Once she got on the ground, she made a lot of noise, hissing, and pounced at the coyotes.”

He added: “Never in a million years would I have expected a cat to do that.”

Binx was a stray cat who came to the Dyers’ attention when she began visiting their home in the early weeks of her life.

The family began feeding her as her visits became more frequent.

“We tried to bring her inside, but she has no interest in being an indoor cat”, Dyer said.

“She likes the elements, and I’m sure she’s been in a lot of situations where she’s had to defend herself.

“She lives in our backyard.”
