Donald Trump’s former legal adviser has suggested parental rights are being “taken away” as children are “indoctrinated” in schools.
May Mailman spoke to GB News about schools in California, suggesting they are demonising parents who are keen to ensure their children stick to a normal curriculum.
It comes amid a row which saw the state’s governor, Gavin Newsom, push for a curriculum that included lesson plans that mentioned Harvey Milk, the late San Francisco supervisor who was the state’s first openly gay elected official.
In July, Newsom announced that the state would fine the Temecula Valley Unified School District when the school board’s three conservative members voted against the updated plan.

Mailman told Patrick Christys that children are being “confused” by such topics.
“When things are changing in your body, of course it is confusing”, she said.

“When you go onto TikTok, the hashtag ‘Trans’ had been seen 70 billion times, this was last year. It’s an epidemic.
“Not only do you confuse kids, you also take away parental rights. States like California have rules that prevent information from going to parents.
“Whether that’s information about gender transition or information on what the kid is being called in school, parents are being left in the dark.
“You know what those parents are doing? They’re suing. Some of those lawsuits are not getting to the court system because the schools are caving and settling.
“This is because they know what they are doing is wrong.”
LGBT education has proven to be a divisive topic in California with the state adopting an inclusive approach.
Governor Newsom says “fringe ideologues” are attempting to “whitewash history” by opposing the measures.
He says California is a place where “families - not political fanatics - have the freedom to decide what is right for them”.
Mailman added that Christian values are being “pushed aside” as a result of “indoctrination” in schools.
“We’re seeing the rise of teachers who are young and liberal bringing in a whole different set up of values that are not based on our Western values”, she said.
“They are very divisive ideologies.”
