A British headteacher at an elite Washington DC preschool has been arrested after soliciting graphic videos of a nine-year-old boy from an undercover FBI agent.
James Stewart Carroll, 55, head of the £33,000-a-year National Child Research Center, appeared in court on Tuesday charged with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.
Carroll, who has led the prestigious preschool since 2018, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
The British-born educator was apprehended after requesting explicit videos from someone he believed to be the father of a young boy.

Carroll was initially flagged to the FBI in September when Discord staff reported him to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Using the username "CircumcisedLondonGay", Carroll had uploaded an image of two naked minors to the messaging platform.
Federal authorities traced the IP address to Carroll's residence.
An undercover FBI agent then made contact with Carroll on Discord, where the headteacher expressed interest in "boys only" between the ages of eight and 12.
During these conversations, Carroll engaged in discussions about "child sexual exploitation, circumcision of teenage boys" and "urinating on teenage boys and adults".
In disturbing exchanges with the undercover agent, Carroll was told that the fictitious father regularly abused his nine-year-old son.
The headteacher requested specific videos of abuse, stating he wanted to see the child being assaulted in three different ways.
Carroll told the agent that he enjoyed watching "relentless" sexual abuse.
He made the chilling admission that if a child was crying, "I get more turned on".
The FBI agent, posing as a separated father, offered to send Carroll footage of the supposed abuse, leading to his arrest shortly afterwards.
The case is being investigated by the FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes agents from the FBI Washington Field Office and Metropolitan Police Department.
Assistant US Attorney Karen Shinskie is prosecuting the case.
Carroll's career in education spans nearly two decades in the United States, where he has worked since 2005.
Before moving to America, he held a position at Dulwich Preparatory School in London.
