A British influencer who has undergone surgery to transition to Korean has said they don’t understand “why people get so offended, I’m just following my dreams”.

The influencer has based his looks on Jimin, a South Korean singer in the boyband BTS, and has adopted Jimin as his Korean name.

Oli London, originally from London, spoke to Patrick Christys and Mercy Muroki on GB News as he said he was trying to be as respectful as possible and “Korean people don’t get offended".

“Being trans-racial is quite a difficult thing to define, for me I never felt right in my body, I always felt like I was born in the wrong country, born in the wrong culture," they said.

After living in South Korea and experiencing the nation’s culture, they discovered over a number of years “that I kind of felt OK”, telling viewers: “I don’t really feel British anymore.”

They continued: “I loved the way Korean people look… so I really wanted to emulate that and that’s why I have been having a few plastic surgery procedures."

Oli London went on to say they understood why some people found trans-racialism to be a difficult subject “or think it might be cultural appropriation”, but pushed back by highlighting “for me this is a journey, it’s not about you".

While some people “don’t really understand it”, they said: “I use my platform to try and educate people on what it is like to identify in a different way.”
