People on social media are "tampering" with the investigation to find missing Jay Slater, a journalist has claimed.
Slater, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was last heard from early last week as he told a friend he planned to walk to his accommodation after missing a bus, a journey expected to take around 11 hours on foot.
During his final call to his friend Lucy Law at 8am local time last Monday, the 19-year-old said his phone had only one per cent battery, he was thirsty and he did not know where he was.
His last location showed he was in the Rural de Teno Park - an area popular among hikers. He has not been seen since and the search has entered its 12th day.
Nick Pisa has been in Tenerife since Slater disappeared

Speaking to GB News, global reporter for the Daily Mail Nick Pisa said: "There have been tourists just coming up here having a look at the scene, taking photographs, taking selfies.
"To a certain degree, the Spanish police are saying that this noise, if you like, that's what they're calling this interference, is actually tampering with their investigation.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
"Although at the same time, they have appealed for volunteers, to come here tomorrow at 9am to start a mass search of this area.
"They are specifically saying they don't want just anybody to come. They want people who are experienced in hiking across this sort of terrain.
"The key thing they are saying is that you must register if you turn up here because they don't want to be looking for these people themselves tomorrow afternoon."
GB News host Martin Daubney asked him: "Isn't that the danger here, though? Like, we had a lot of, we've got a lot of TikTok detectives who wanna come along for the ride, for the glamour.
"The Civil Guard are saying they want people who are competent in mountain rescue."
He explained: "Well, you'd like to think so, Martin, because I say this terrain is very difficult to to search through and to trek through it. It's let's say betrayals aren't marked. Today is actually one of the first days when it's actually quite warm up here.
"The last week or so it's been quite chilly with a bit of a breeze. So you don't just want anyone coming up here and putting on their their hiking gear and their boots strapping on a rucksack and strolling along through here.
"You need to know what you're doing, I say. Otherwise, you're going to perhaps need rescuing yourself by those authorities as well.
Just to go back on those TikTok and Internet posts, they, are really having an effect on the family.
"They've told me that they just cannot bear to look at social media because of some of the stuff that's been posted on there. And some of the stuff is actually quite vile and abusive to them. And what I would say to those people is look, just stop.
"Always have a think. Would you say something like this to your own son, nephew, whatever if they were missing? It's just not on really."
