A man has been sentenced to 20 months imprisonment after a leaving a Tesco staff member terrified when he went on a violent rampage.

Jason Sultana was handed a prison sentence last week after "disgraceful" behaviour inside a store in Canton, Wales.

CCTV footage shows the customer swinging rope with metal hooks at a female member of staff before causing £3,000 worth of damage to windows.

Sultana's rage came after he was approached by the staff member, who had noticed him walking up and down the beauty aisle with a large Ikea bag.

The 42-year-old screamed "What the f*** are you looking at you c**t, I'll come back up and slit you up" before being told to leave the store.

He initially threw an advertising stand and the Ikea bad at the female staff member before later returning to the shop with the black rope.

After being forced out of the Tesco he returned for a third time with a metal chair, smashing the windows and destroying the store's security fittings.

In a victim personal statement, the female member of staff said: "This has affected me massively, it has affected my mental health and has left me frightened.

"I had to take some time off work which affected me financially as a single parent. The incident caused me to stop eating and sleeping.

"Three days afterwards I had a breakdown. I have increased the dosage of my medication to help me cope with my mental health.

"I shouldn't have to put up with this behaviour, I come to work to support my family."

Sultana pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, affray and criminal damage.

He held 32 previous convictions for offences including battery, criminal damage, theft, burglary, and shoplifting.

Sentencing, Judge David Wynn Morgan said: "Your behaviour that day was quite disgraceful.

"It doesn't require much imagination to understand the fear that must have been in the mind of those who were having to deal with you, and those going about their daily business going shopping in Tesco."

Sultana will spend half the sentence in custody before being released on licence.
