Tesco has extended the deadline for Clubcard customers to recoup reward points before implementing a change which will impact hundreds of thousands of customers.
The change was set to come into place yesterday but the supermarket giant confirmed it had prolonged the deadline as high demand led to delays.
Tesco will instead give customers until 11.59pm tonight to redeem their points as dozens took to social media to complain about IT issues.
A shopper said on Twitter: “You need to sort your website out, Tesco.
Some customers were complaining on social media about technical issues when trying to redeeming points
Tesco“You must have expected this demand for point swapping in these last few days.”
Responding to another customer, Tesco said: “Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
“Lots of customers are exchanging their Clubcard vouchers at the moment, so you might experience issues or delays.
“To make sure you can exchange your vouchers before the deadline, we’re extending it to 11.59pm on June 15.”
Tesco clubcard vouchers will go from being triple value to just double
PAThe UK’s largest supermarket also urged loyal customers to return to Tesco’s website or app again later if they were experiencing online difficulties.
The modification to clubcard points will see the value drop from three-times against a ‘Reward Partner’ to just two.
The outgoing scheme enabled customers to use 500 points, worth £5 when spent in-store, to equate to £15 with a ‘Reward Partner’.
The updated scheme will reduce the value to ensure 500 points are worth just £10.
Tesco customers have just hours to go to redeem vouchers for triple value
TescoThere are numerous ‘Reward Partners’ connected with Tesco’s scheme, including Legoland, Disney+ and Pizza Express.
The retailer will also change how clubcard points impact motorists at the pump.
Drivers had been awarded one point for every £2 on fuel.
However, from yesterday, one point is given for every two litres of fuel purchased.
A Tesco spokesperson also said: “Clubcard unlocks the best value from Tesco - from thousands of exclusive deals through Clubcard Prices, to money off your groceries and fuel, or accessing double the value of your vouchers with more than 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.
"Millions of people tap their Tesco Clubcard every time they shop, benefiting from access to more than 8,000 weekly deals on Clubcard Prices.
"And with potential savings of up to £351 a year, more people than ever before are making the most of the immediate value that Tesco Clubcard offers.
"We are making a change to how members can use their vouchers with our Reward Partners, but they will still be able to unlock great value in the same range of ways as before."
