Quorn issues urgent recall of popular food item after discovering it may contain plastic - ‘Choking hazard’

Quorn has issued a recall of one of its products, urging anyone who has purchased it with a specific best before date to return it.

The product contains plastic, making it unsafe to eat and a poses a potential choking hazard.


Quorn urged customers not to eat it and return it to the store or contact them directly for a refund.

The product in question is the Frozen Quorn Swedish Style Balls, specifically the packet that weighs 300g.

The meatballs which Quorn believes may have plastic inside have a best before date of September 30 2024.

The Food Standards Agency released the information in a bid to prevent anyone from eating the meatballs.

It wrote: “Quorn Foods is recalling Frozen Quorn Swedish Style Balls because they may contain small pieces of plastic.

“The possible presence of plastic makes the product unsafe to eat and presents a potential choking hazard.

The risk statement read: “This product may contain small pieces of plastic which makes them unsafe to eat and presents a potential choking hazard.”

Explaining how customers should proceed, it wrote: “Quorn is recalling the above product from customers.

“The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.”

“If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund, no receipt is required.”

The alert was issued on February 14.
