The police sparked outrage after they were filmed dancing with crowds for Pakistan Independence Day

Police seen dancing with crowds on Pakistan Independence Day have sparked anger with political commentator Alex Armstrong fuming over a comparison to the lack of celebrations seen on Saint George's Day.

Roads were closed in London for the event, causing the Metropolitan Police to be accused of "two-tier policing" after enforcing dispersal orders to dampen England’s Euro reaction.

Speaking on GB News, Alex Armstrong said: "We have a situation where community leaders seem to have a lot of authority in the way that the local communities are policed.

"I don't know how to become a community leader. I would really like to become one because I'd like the police to come and ask me how they want football to be managed, and how the policing should work for that.

"Because I would rather the police were less aggressive. We saw on Saint George's Day, if we look at the comparison of the celebration of Pakistan Independence Day yesterday compared to Saint George's Day, you'll see it.

"And people like Keir Starmer tell you that it doesn't exist and you shouldn't believe your eyes."

He added: "Well, it seems to me we don't know whether we want a police service or a police force. I want police to be tough and fair for everybody, and that includes the way they police events like football, the pro-Palestine events, Notting Hill Carnival.

"What we're seeing, though, is that the police will engage with some communities and celebrate, and in others they won't like.

"For the football tonight, you're not going to see police going and saying well done.

"They're not going to be engaging in that. But we see them screaming free Palestine. And this is what gets the British public riled up. It gets them annoyed because they see a two-tier system, one rule for everybody else and one rule for mostly British white people."

Social commentator Joanna Jarjue argued: "Are you trying to say that when it's the euros or the World Cup that white policemen don't want to celebrate with other British people?

"The key thing is we also need to look at who has a reputation of smashing cities up when they're celebrating. I'm not being funny, but when we just look at it objectively, the street parties, they're dancing.

"I'm not saying that sometimes when there are celebrations in certain communities there isn't violence, but categorically we have bus stops that are smashed up, telephone boxes that are smashed up.

"It's almost like part of British culture is like almost, and there are some decent people out there, but also smashing cities up."

Many areas of London have marked Pakistan’s Independence Day for years.

Residents across Newham gathered on Green Street in 2013 to mark the moment.

Celebrations usually include cars cruising, singing the national anthem, setting off fireworks, dancing and waving flags.
