Nathan Baker was sentenced for 12 months

A man who threatened his neighbour with a knife after she asked him to repay her the £100 he owed her has been jailed.

Nathan Baker, 31, turned red when the lady who lives below his flat asked if he could give her back the money that she lent him.

Baker, from Winsford, Cheshire, received a text at around 1.00pm on July 15 2023 asking if he could repay his debt.

The woman only asked for half of what was owed to her, which was £200 that Baker had borrowed several months before.

Within an hour, she heard heavy banging on her front door.

Peeping through the spyhole, she was shocked to discover the enraged 31-year-old wielding a knife outside her flat.

He yelled: “Just you watch - I’ll f*****g kill you,” before plunging the blade into the door.

The impact was so hard that the door snapped.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

She proceeded to call the police, who later entered Baker’s flat and discovered the weapon.

Baker, who has 47 convictions for 130 offences, refused to leave his cell to be interviewed.

The 31-year-old pled guilty to one count of affray, before appearing at Chester Crown Court on January 10.

Prosecution Callum Ross told the court that the neighbour was left feeling “anxious, scared, and very concerned’ for her children, who were due to arrive home at the time of the attack.

Ross told the court of Baker’s convictions, which include counts of battery, affray, assault, and criminal damage. He urged the judge to take these into account when sentencing.

Baker’s defence John Wynn-Williams said that he last offended in 2014 and since then, his other charges have mostly been for “theft and dishonesty matters”.

As Baker has already spent six months in custody after making the threats, Wynn-Williams argued that he already has had enough time to change his ways: “He has used his time on remand at HMP Liverpool to reflect on his current situation, and has used his time constructively.”

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with the judge stating that “it was a frightening incident, as you well knew it would be”.
