A mother-of-four has appeared in court charged with killing two of her children in a crash on the M1.

Mary McCann attended Aylesbury Crown Court via video-link from HMP Bronzefield on Tuesday accused of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

McCann, from Derby, is charged over the deaths of her son Smaller, 10, and daughter Lilly, four, after a Vauxhall Astra was involved in a collision with a Scania HGV on the motorway between junction 14 and 15 near Milton Keynes on August 9.

The 35-year-old, who had been on bail, failed to appear in court last month and has since been remanded in custody.

She and another child passenger survived the crash and were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The lorry driver was not injured in the incident.

The defendant was not required to enter any pleas in front of Judge Francis Sheridan during a short hearing.

She was remanded back into custody to appear before the same court on December 10.
