Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the suspect and one of the victims were known to each other.
Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, which is being treated as isolated with no threat to the wider public.
Officers have established a cordon at the scene, with several police guarding each end and one stationed at the entrance to an Islamic centre.
One resident told the Mail: "We can't go outside at the moment. I saw it this morning, about 4am - out of my window, there was a man laying on the floor and another laying further ahead."
