Emergency services launch desperate search for boy, 16, who went missing in Cambridge lake

An urgent search has been launched for a missing 16-year-old boy who got into difficulty in the water in Cambridge.
Police say the incident happened yesterday shortly before 5.30pm at Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton.
The teenager is said to be from the Essex area and was swimming in the lake with a group of friends.
Rescue teams have been searching the lake but the 16-year-old is yet to be located.

A Cambridge Police spokeswoman said: "It is believed the boy, who is 16 and from the Essex area, was swimming in the lake with a group of friends when he got into difficulty.
"Search teams remain at the lake to find the boy and we ask that members of the public stay away from the area while this work is carried out.
"The boy’s family are aware."
The incident happened on Britain's hottest day of the year so far.

Burnside Lakes are former chalk pits which were closed in the 1950s.
It is not open to the public and signs warn the public of deep water.
The news comes after the body of a 15-year-old schoolgirl was found after she was playing in Britain's longest river with friends.

The teenager went missing on Friday in the River Severn at Welshpool, Wales.
Police confirmed that a body was recovered at around 8pm.
