No Mow May encourages households, organisations, and local authorities alike to refrain from mowing their lawns in May

GB News host Bev Turner has been left fuming at her local council after they introduced a "no mow May" to help the local environment.

The presenter was discussing a new re-wilding initiative that has been introduced in Erewash and upset locals.

Speaking about her own experience with it Bev said: "Do you know what it does when you have messy pavements?

"I wish I'd taken a picture before I left the house this morning because my council in Hounslow have done this. Another Labour council.

"We have no mow May, so you don't mow the pavements in May and they've mowed them just sort of recently and it's messy.

"When your streets look messy, there's a general sense of why do I bother?

"Why do I care? Where's your civic private? And it has to start with the councils.

"If our streets got the graffiti off and they made the lawns neat, I maybe I'm just getting old, but I'm sorry. It makes a difference."

Co-host Andrew Pierce agreed: "That is why I say to people who say, oh, I can't be bothered to vote in the local elections.

"Your local council in many ways is far more influential in your daily life than a government millions of miles away."

Paul Maginnis, Conservative councillor for Erewash said: "I can't describe the logic behind this.

"It is a Labour policy, what they say is that they are tackling the climate emergency, they are improving biodiversity.

"Anyone who says that mowing doesn't make a difference, just come to Erewash because it absolutely does make a difference.

He added: "Erewash residents are completely up in arms about this."

The concerns have been raised as part of a push for the council to reverse the scheme and cut the grass.

The scheme, which is called Wild About Erewash, was introduced in 2024.

Just a year after Labour took control of the council from the Tories, who had held power for 20 years.

According to the Telegraph, locals cite fear of disease, dog mess and ‘drugs’ in an attempt to get Labour-controlled Erewash to reverse its biodiversity policy.
