Banking outage: Nationwide Building Society alerts customers to 'delayed payments' on app

Nationwide customers have been left unable to make or receive payments this morning

Nationwide has informed its members of an issue which could affect when people get paid

Nationwide Building Society customers have been hit by another app outage which is impacting their ability to make and receive payments.

A notice was sent to members of the building society that payments "are delayed at the moment".


According to Downdetector, which monitors outages of online services, there was dramatic hike in reports from Nationwide customers.

In its update to customers, the building society stated: "Payments from your account are delayed at the moment. Some payments to your account are also delayed.

"If you've sent money already or are waiting for money to arrive you don't need to do anything, it's in a queue and will arrive ASAP.

"You can still send money, but this won't go straight through."

Despite this "payment delay", Nationwide confirmed that direct debits and standing orders are working normally.

Furthermore, customers should be able to move money between the building society's different accounts.

Cards can still be used to make purchases online and in stores.

On top of this, Nationwide members will still be able to withdraw cash from ATMs.

All customers will still be able to log onto their Nationwide online account, as well as the banking app.

A spokesperson for the building society told GB News: "We apologise to our customers as a technical issue is impacting Faster Payments.

"We are working to get this resolved as soon as possible.

"Cards are unaffected so customers can use them to make purchases or to withdraw cash at an ATM as normal.”

"Payment made from another bank not received into nationwide account, normally instantly recieved?

Responding to customers on the platform, Nationwide stated: "We are aware of a delay affecting some payments to and from accounts.

"We’re working to fix this ASAP, and we're really sorry for any inconvenience caused.

"Direct Debits and standing orders are not impacted, and are working normally."
