GBN Members have been flooding our inbox and across our site reacting to the increased pressure on Keir Starmer and the Labour government to conduct a full inquiry into the grooming gangs scandal.

Kemi Badenoch has tabled an amendment to the Children's Wellbeing & Schools Bill which will be voted on this evening. The leader of the opposition also hit out at the Prime Minister today at PMQs saying "No one has the total picture and it is almost certainly still going on".

Starmer has so far refused a full inquiry into the scandal which has been amplified on X by billionaire Elon Musk. The PM pushed back against Badenoch and said the Tories "have been tweeting and talking, we have been acting". Increased demand for a national inquiry has led to Nigel Farage claiming that Reform would step in saying "if they won't do it, we at Reform will do it."

Not a huge fan of Kemi's but she landed some good punches today, for which Starmer had no response. If Labour would agree to a national enquiry, the child protection bill could go through and the recommendations from the previous reports could be implemented in any event, at last. It is Labour that is putting the bill under threat by trying to dodge the issue. If they have nothing to hide, a national enquiry shouldn't be a problem, right? - Mike FoD

Last year it was the Post Office scandal. This is pure heartbreaking news. This should be the only thing the UK news channels and government should be investigating. Just shocking. - Nannie Lou Lou

It really does show how stupid Labour are. They won’t sanction a national public inquiry because they’re afraid of losing the Muslim vote, yet they will do nothing to reduce the influx of migrants. Do they not realise that when they’re strong enough, the Muslim vote will ditch Labour and vote for their own independent candidates just as they did in July when they won five seats over Gaza. If Labour were intelligent enough, they would realise that the biggest threat to them remaining in power and retaining their seats comes from those they are allowing to enter the country in huge numbers. - Matt Baines

Just because there’s an inquiry it doesn’t mean you sit on your hands doing nothing proactive to stop these vile rapes. Disgraceful from Labour, either do the jobs you are there to do, govern the country & protect our young girls or resign. - Sue Ryder

I think it's absolutely despicable that Starmer is claiming those calling for an inquiry don't care about the victims when he's blatantly refusing to have one to save his own and the party's skin. He is a hypocrite of the highest order, trying to sound holier than thou and using his barrister training to deflect from the truth. Shame on him. - Claire T

It would be interesting if Elon Musk offered to pay for a FULL country wide public inquiry in to the grooming gangs. Those in power would still try to block it. I wonder why? - Brian Kendal

The constant refusal by Labour to approve an independent national inquiry into the grooming gangs is alarming. I don’t care if we’ve already had one as they continually tell us, the victims themselves say it does not address the grooming gangs across the country. I implore Starmer and his government for once to listen to the victims! I don’t care what anyone else says, the victims voice must be heard now. - Humpty Tilsley

All of these Labour MPs standing up for not having an inquiry are cowards. They clearly don't want justice and to hold the people to account who they are clearly trying to protect. They don't seem very emotional or upset over what they are talking about either which is very concerning. - Terry Howard

What on earth did Starmer do as Director of Public Prosecutions? Everything that comes up he does a 'Sturgeon' and says it didn't come across my desk. Labour voters should hang their heads in shame. Who would have guessed that a human rights lawyer would be a bad idea as a prime minister!!! - Susan Dempster

You have to ask, why doesn’t Starmer and his MPs not want an in-depth investigation if they have nothing to hide. It is not about them, but the victims who must have justice done. Starmer was quick enough in pushing women and others who just tweeted put in jail fast tracked. I thought he was holier than thou, but is it because these cities/towns were Labour councilor run and Labour MPs. It stinks as does the Labour PM and party. If they vote against a national investigation, then they are not fit to be in power running this country. - June Zerbino

Labour MP’s, should vote with their conscious and stick two fingers up to the whips. The vast majority of their constituents will expect their MP’s to do the right thing and put the safety of our children above party politics. If Starmer threatens them with removing the whip then just tell him you will resign and trigger a by-election, they will not lose their jobs because their constituents will stand by them. I just hope the decent Labour MP’s have the bottle to stand tall. - Roger G Birmingham
