The Conservatives also hit out at Rachel Reeves over the economy. As sterling continues to sink and UK borrowing costs surge the Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride asked: "Where is the Chancellor?"

The government can have a general enquiry into this grooming gang any time. They didn’t need to interfere with the parliamentary bill that they had yesterday he could’ve announced a national inquiry two or three days ago into this disgusting affair, but he hasn’t because he’srunning scared. - Martin Pritchett

It should not be left to the victims to have to get involved in a Government enquiry, it should be automatically done by the Government. A complete cover up. - June Zerbino

Never have SO MANY been dismissed or destroyed by the few (364) in the Labour Govt who voted against Justice yesterday. Shame on them! - Lucia Bell

What I don’t understand is why Keir Starmer insisted that all Labour MPs vote in favor of the party’s bill and reject the amendment calling for a national inquiry. He reportedly said that Labour MPs would be whipped—meaning they were instructed to vote according to the party line—and warned they could be sacked if they did not comply. However, both Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner abstained from the vote themselves, which seems hypocritical. If MPs were being threatened with losing their positions for not following the whip, how is it acceptable for Starmer and Rayner to abstain? It feels like they are failing to lead by example. Disgraceful! Personally, I believe there should be a national inquiry because it feels like there’s a major cover-up taking place. - Craig Hickelton

I want an independent enquiry into grooming gangs - I care. I wanted a re-election before Labour destroy the UK even more. As an Ex union rep I am hardly "Far Right" but anyone from the Left pigeon hole ANYONE with a different view as Far Right. This is how Labour work. - Brian Kendal

I was just listening to Nigel in parliament yesterday talking about the need for a national enquiry. He was absolutely brilliant. No script. He explained it so well and when someone challenged him he shut them down immediately. He is our only hope of making our country great again, in my opinion. - Susan Bromley

Is there now a looming battle between those viewing the world as race driven and those who want reasonable justice for crimes committed regardless of race. I suppose I shall be labelled imprisoned as far right for wanting the latter. - Charles Dobson

What I can't get my head around is Starmer acted as DPP In his last year to put some plan to help prosecute a grooming gang. But no one mentions that he was DPP from 2008. So 5 years he ignored what was going on? - David Smith

Rachel Reeves and the economy

The damage Rachel Reeves' budget has done to our economy is far worse than that incurred by Liz Truss and yet she is still insitu because The Blob supports Labour. How much more damage does she have to wreak before she is ousted? - Eileen Dowdeswell

What happens to people when they join the Labour cabinet? Are their brains taken out and replaced with a recording of £22nillion black hole, 14 years Tory mis-rule, difficult decisions etc? Or are they genuinely deluded? - Mandy Bengeyfield

Labour, since Attlee, have always promised pain today for jam tomorrow. Never, ever delivered the Jam. Often left Office, leaving the Countries finances is a far worse state than when they took Office. And Reeves 'once in a term tax hike' is looking as shaky as the shoogly peg the whole premise of the budget, was hung on.

They are now talking of an Autumn Budget, when she said only one budget review per year was required and took a pot shot at the Tories for taking 2 slices of the Tax Cake in a 12 month period.

This proves Churchill right, 'you cannot tax your way out of poverty', Reeves is finding that out. So much for Labours pre-budget hype of scrutineering her proposal through the OBR and Treasury as well as the BoE before publishing. One has to ask the voracity of such a statement in light of the economic reviews and forecasts today.

What she should do now is reverse the Farmers inheritance tax, scrap Net Zero, scrap NI increases, lower the tax threshold by increasing personal tax allowances. All of which will put huge sums of money back into the Treasury Coffers and people's pockets and follow Arthur Laffer's directions. - Neil Ockenden
