The exact date to put your heating on this year has been shared by experts

Parts of the UK will be facing cooler days after a warm weekend.

The temperature outside is a key indicator of when to turn on the heating.

The best time to turn the heating on could be as soon as next week, according to data gathered by online heating specialists BestHeating.

They looked at Met Office data from the past five years to find when to turn the heating on.

It found next Saturday, October 20, could be the time to switch it on.

This is based on guidance that heating is required when temperatures drop below 15°C outside, or if inside is below 18°C, the NHS states.

According to the data, this will happen next weekend, although it is of course dependent on where in the country you are based.

Last October, temperatures were higher and if there is a repeat this month, the best day to turn on the heating could be November 2.

Heating technology expert at BestHeating Jess Steele commented: “Whilst there isn’t an optimum time to switch heating on, our research shows that once temperatures are below 15°C, usually in the middle of October, it is best to turn the heating on as we feel the chill more.

"By the end of the month, even the hardiest among us will have our heating on to keep warm as temperatures are predicted to drop further.

“If it is below 13°C outside then serious health issues can arise, especially in vulnerable people."

It is important to put the heating on when it is cold outside for health reasons.
